Our first OPAC user in the library was a third grader who mastered the process with ease and just needed a little help finding the book's call number. Now she comes in and uses the "computer catalog" frequently. When older patrons come in looking for a book, the staff guides them through the use of the OPAC and they are enjoying it as well. Of course, there are a few who wonder what the library staff is going to do now that everything is automated! To me, it seems like we are just as busy as always, and loving every minute of our jobs.
I so appreciate my wonderful staff, Rae & Hunter, who are adapting and learning as I am. Every day is a new adventure at your library...for staff and patrons alike!
A big thank you to Roger P. for building our OPAC computer station and our circulation desk shelf...you are a wonderful gift to our library. Thanks to the trustees who helped make patron cards, help with Books on Wheels while Diane was busy at the computer, and put on many barcode labels.
But we are most appreciative of the volunteers who helped me to manually put into the software every one of the 13,000+ items we have at the library: Sharon, Darlene, Norma, Carolyn, and Pat. Your time and effort was a blessing to us and we could not have done it without your help!
