Pictured is one of our Halloween scavengers hunting for clues about scarecrows on the library computer in the World Book database (Thank you, SD State Library! What a great resource!). The staff had fun. Hopefully, so did the students. Too bad we didn't get a picture of Hunter in his pirate hat...
Although busy and behind because of my wonderful Black Hills vacation, I couldn't let too much time slip by without commenting on my "other" vacation...SDLA Convention in Pierre, SD at the beginning of the month. It was great to see so many familiar faces. The sessions gave me MORE ideas for our library (so many ideas...so little time!), the food was great, and the opportunity to interact with other librarians was wonderful. Make me feel less isolated!
It was great to have two of our trustees, Cheryl and Joan, travel along for the experience. Although we were a little (!) sore from sitting, we want to thank all the committee members for another great adventure in library development skills.
Book talks at the local school's After School Program was a tasty October treat for this librarian. We dug into some of the Prairie Bud titles and of course had to read a few as well! (Oh, No, George! is already a favorite.)
The group of listeners grew larger as we continued on to the Prairie Pasque books. Did some teasing by reading a few delicious pages and leaving the rest to their imagination or to entice them to devour a few new authors. Even some middle school students were eavesdropping on the fringes.
Later that evening, a few students showed up with parents to check out books. (That was the best treat of all) Thanks, Kristi, for letting me come and visit!
