Almost the end of the school year. And, of course, that means visits from the very friendly library lady to tell everyone about summer programs. I enjoy visiting with all of the kids (big and small) and am thankful for the teachers and Mr. Determan who allowed me to interrupt the classes for a few minutes on Thursday. Hoping to see lots of eager readers this summer!
Once again, the library's auxiliary group met for a book discussion and business meeting, but included our end of the season potluck. Oh, my, there were some delicious treats to eat. A lively discussion of the book "The Giver" by Lois Lowry was enjoyed as well. Thanks to everyone who came out and participated and also to the new officers who were elected for the upcoming year.
It was great to see so many visitors during our celebration of National Library Week this year. The Head Start leaders brought us a nice group of parents and children who enjoyed their tour of the library and information about our services on Monday evening.
On Tuesday, many students, teachers and community members, including our mayor, Maurie Schlaht, dropped everything to take up the D.E.A.R. challenge at 12:12 (or later if they were busy at work!). The busy third grade students under the direction of their teachers, Mrs. Jacobsen and Mrs. Darke, made D.E.A.R. posters to hang in businesses all over our town to remind people to get involved.
On Wednesday, fourth grade teachers Mrs. Webster and Mrs. Bartling brought their students over to present book commercials on their favorite books in our library meeting room. Parents and members of the community gathered to watch their terrific creative efforts. I was very impressed!
All week, the artistic endeavors of our local students in Begindergarten, Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade have decorated our long wall and received ribbons for prizes for the best drawing of "My Favorite Book."
I also was able to spend some time at the area daycare facilities sharing stories and, of course, the annual used book sale has been a hit as usual.
I love the sharing, the participation, the partnerships, and seeing both new and familiar faces enjoying my favorite place...the library.
